Re: User Experience Guide for Displaying Accessibility metadata for EPUB

Dear Charles,

Thank you for sending this document to the EPUB3 Community Group.
It is a huge work.

I must admit I’m a bit puzzled from the choice of Schema.org for public catalog that are fed today with ONIX.
And also with search engines crawlers use on type book in Schema.org context. Are we sure this work ?

Using the link to issues, I’ve create some. To be discussed

Best regards,
Luc

Dear EPUB 3 Community Group,

As you know the EPUB Accessibility Conformance and Discovery Specification requires Schema.org<https://eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2FSchema.org&data=02%7C01%7Claudrain%40hachette-livre.fr%7Ccfcdc91af49b4df26fc008d6e517d17b%7Cf881a2c50a89483181b1c7846c49594d%7C1%7C0%7C636948287787930861&sdata=JZLcyZ444B6BGMOzUDvAYw4SP7NGkJ9TC26qQ8Hiq6g%3D&reserved=0> accessibility metadata to be embedded in a conforming EPUB file. VitalSource is the first to expose this metadata in their catalog. We want to encourage this as a best practice in library and distributor catalogues. Also, we felt that Schema.org<https://eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2FSchema.org&data=02%7C01%7Claudrain%40hachette-livre.fr%7Ccfcdc91af49b4df26fc008d6e517d17b%7Cf881a2c50a89483181b1c7846c49594d%7C1%7C0%7C636948287787940855&sdata=ZlXAcJSyx6seKw9RbhqU02cW5WIVaa4uSo6Jr6dk4vk%3D&reserved=0> and/or ONIX metadata needed guidelines to present this vital accessibility information to end users.

Therefore, The DAISY Transition to Accessible EPUB and the DIAGRAM Standards working groups jointly authored the “User Experience Guide for Displaying Accessibility metadata for EPUB.”

We are asking the EPUB 3 Community Group to review and comment on this guideline.
