Hi all,
I have just participated at the kick-off meeting of the (new) W3C WebView CG[1]. What the group is planning to do is to create a use case and challenges document in WebView usage, see also [2]. The hope is that if those use cases are distilled it may lead to a better generation of WebView implementations (maybe a standard?).
I think it would be important for the EPUB community, more exactly the Reading System community, to make itself heard in this phase. I do not have the necessary technical background to judge which of the technical problems that we had to deal with (Root URL discussions, security issues around the origin concept, efficiency questions, etc) are related to WebView and which are more related to, say, the packaging technology. But clearly we have people in the group who do have this type of background (I have added some to the cc list; apologies if I missed anyone). I would encourage you to add issues to the repository[3] or possibly comment on existing ones. I am happy to play the go-between if needed.
