RE: FYI: The Structural Semantics Vocabulary note has been published

> if they only appear on a very small subset of items

Well, to travel back in time to the IDPF days, using semantics was a common
practice in extension specs. Some semantics have modeling requirements
defined in other specifications, some don't. The "about" section was
intended to give the brief summary of what the various property fields means
so we didn't have to put notes in everywhere, as the expectation when we
started adding these extension terms was that there would be a lot more in
the future. (This note is just the latest port of the structure vocab, after
all, not something written new for W3C.)

Given that we've largely abandoned epub:type now, and there isn't much
interest in porting those old specifications forward, I agree there isn't
much point in keeping that particular explanation. I don't expect the
meaning of the field is ambiguous, and we should be using proper references.

What's there now is easily changed, as just because a note is published
doesn't mean we can't keep updating it.

Ah - thanks Matt. I hadn't looked at Index, I was looking elsewhere in the
document. So it looks like this these only exist for Index and Comics,
correct?

So why, if they only appear on a very small subset of items, was it
necessary to put this statement up at the top of the doc - or in the doc at
all?

The usage details are defined for various properties. For example, see

They're more "fields" than "sections", granted. I expect we could strike
that sentence, though, and simply put proper references on the
specifications where they're cited (looks like only Indexes and Region-Based
Nav).

I gather it is already published, but if you could fix one thing.

utilize the specified properties.

There is no IDPF, none of its former specifications are referenced, and
there is no "Usage Details" section to this document.
