I am a European :-) No really, Italian passport, lived in UK, then Asia,
then UK, then Spain in the recent months, but generally no particular place

The meeting is in the context of Spain but, maybe you could be interested

I have been in Barcelona for two months, and I tend to become a citizen
of the places where I reside

it only should be necessary to confirm about the limit of seating (from the

No no, do not worry, thank you - not even sure I ll be there on the day,
but in general, is to have open meetings where people from related
workgroups interested in the topic can walk in to. I have been working in
Open Gvt/data for years, worldwide, trying to identify the
universal dimensions which are common to all countries (la dimension
universal). When Europe 'unified' I started considering every single
country as 'my own', and generally like to learn from the local experience
(Barcelona is special in many ways), and also bring some knowledge with me
from the other countries where I live, and bridge the local with the global
dimension.
I feel the need to try to capture the big emerging picture, and therefore
I am following activities in all countries simoultaneously .
I have many stories to tell. For example how the EU Digital Agenda which
starts in Brussels with an open invitation to all citizens in Europe to
participate, then is manipulated at local
level by the local politicians and their marketers who fill the agenda with
their propaganda (whatever projects and initiatives the local
administration wants Brussels to see). I am convinced that trough the
appropriate use of web based technologies the manipulation of political
institutions on behalf of the few can be reduced.

Would be great if you could just send us some note of what the meeting is
up to-
Thanks for offering to find a chair for me :-)

I am however, especially interested in studying 'paradoxes'.

For example,

1) are you aware that AccessInfo was fined 3000 Euros by the Spanish for
requesting access to public data?
http://www.access-info.org/en/spain-coalicion-pro-acceso/296-tribunal-supremo
any comments? (i ll pass your details to them just in case they are
interested)

2) I lived for over six months in the Canary Islands, where I visited the
Mayor
to find out what they were doing in relation to open data, but they said
that no such thing exists in Spain and never got back to me. It is always
nice to learn about the local reality directly from the locals, as they
give a different picture than what their political representative, say the
local reality is . etc etc

Keep us informed!

best

PDM
