Hey, Invited by Chaals, Christine and Tara, I attended the Privacy Interest Group meeting discuss potential privacy issues with the Input Events spec and I think that went well. Basically they gave thumbs up for what we have come up with so far. They had two major points: * In the future, if we should ever want to add the source of before/input events (keyboard, voice input, etc.), we should have a debate about what privacy implications that may have. The current specs should not be affected. * In the privacy section of the spec, we should add something about the advantages of this spec in relation to using key events from a privacy viewpoint. I said that in theory, should we one day not have key events any more, it should be more difficult to sniff for example whether someone has a Serbian-language hardware keyboard or whether the user is using a softkeyboard or some other input method. Of course there are issues with the second point -- if someone inputs an entire word via voice input, it is still quite clear that this likely doesn't come from a hardware keyboard. But at least in theory, the spec may one day improve the situation (mildly). I said I would write a few words about that and we should then probably have the same text in both level 1 and 2. With that done, we are now waiting mainly for the TAG review. @Gary: I saw there has been a transfer of the static range spec to W3C and that discussion has started on it. Should I try to update the link? -- Johannes Wilm http://www.johanneswilm.org tel: +1 (520) 399 8880
