In defense of what @andrea-perego proposes, my recollection is that the formal aspects were indeed a hurdle - especially because inheritance always came back, while we could have progressed without it... I think trying a 'best practice document' could still fly. Something like something giving a hand to people interested in profiles and who could use DCAT profiles and PROF. But not as a the kind of (more technical) primer that @kcoyle has posted. Trying to get something at this level would probably be difficult indeed!
