Digital Publishing Interest Group now closed

Dear Advisory Committee Representative,
Chairs,
Members of the Digital Publishing Interest Group,

The Digital Publishing Interest Group [1] is now closed.

The main goal of the Interest Group was to create a new synergy between two communities that, though sharing many technical concerns, did not have enough contacts to solve the common technical problems together now and in the future. These two communities were the Publishing community, mostly gathered around IDPF and EPUB, and the Web Developers' community, mostly around W3C and the Open Web Platform.

The DPUB IG has largely achieved its goals. Beyond the several documents that the DPUB IG has published over the years [1] it could also formulate new perspectives, create new relationships, started new technical ideas that are now reflected in the charters and the work of the Publishing Business and Working Groups [2,3] and the EPUB3 Community Group [4], it has contributed to the discussions at W3C on accessibility, layout, or metadata and, last but not least, it has laid the groundwork for what is now known as Publishing@W3C [5], born out of the merge of IDPF and W3C. The group has also helped shaping the program of the upcoming W3C Publishing Summit [6].

We think that the group can be proud of what it has achieved.

W3C thanks the current and past chairs: Markus Gylling, Madi Solomon, Liza Daly, Tzviya Siegman, and Garth Conboy, and all the participants in the group for their efforts.

This announcement follows section 5.2.7 of the Process Document:

Thank you,
