To the Digital Publishing Interest Group My name is Mike Perlman. Maybe you have heard about my efforts. I apologise that it has taken me so long to contact you directly. I am the person behind 5doc.org and, independent of the DIGIPUB group's efforts, I have been working on developing the concept of offline html5 docs using WordPress as a CMS. I am currently based in Den Haag Netherlands. With 5DOC, everything required is enclosed inside the single downloaded HTML5 file. I already have several samples that demonstrate many different types of documents. The on- and offline documents are as identical as possible and the offline document is generated in real-time with the click of the 5DOC button. You can read posts about each one of the samples with links to each one at: http://www.5doc.org/blog/tag/samples/ I have also made several samples of documents produced by the DIGIPUB group among which are: 1. The presentation of 2014-11-25 http://samples.5doc.org/content/bridging-the-web-and-digital-publishing/ 2. The first public working draft of 2015-10-15 http://samples.5doc.org/content/portable-web-publications-for-the-open-web-platform/ Please click the red 5DOC button to download and open the HTML file in any browser. Turn off the internet to test the offline capabilities. All the samples work in modern browsers and most of the features and functions work fine in the iPad version of Goodreader. Among the other samples are one with reveal.js (presentations) and another using fullpage.js (emulating a book). All together the 5DOCs demonstrate on- and offline capabilities for using Javascript, images, SVG, math, fonts, CSS. While I have faced many challenges in producing these samples, I have been able to successfully get almost everything to work within the WordPress context and identically as a offline downloaded document. I believe I have proved the concept that a widely used CMS can be adapted to produce PWPs. I am now in a position to produce all sorts of PWPs and test still unimagined concepts. I would really like to work with with the DIGIPUB group. I also have plans for the next steps for 5DOC, including an open source plugin that would generate a DIGIPUB of a WordPress web page and a cloud-based authoring system that could in effect replace PDFs for certain types of offline documents. Perhaps I could arrange to meet Mr Herman who as I understand is based near to me. Yours truly Mike Perlman
