Yes, the Universal DID-Native Addressing (UDNA) Community Group is active,
and work is ongoing—though much of the activity is currently happening
outside the W3C platform.


1. Specifications

The group is actively exploring and developing concepts around DID-native
addressing systems, including approaches that remove dependency on
traditional DNS infrastructure. While formal specifications are still in
early stages, experimental implementations and architectural work are
underway. We have published an explainer first to introduce the concepts.


2. Future Standardization

We see strong potential for future standardization, either within W3C or in
collaboration with other standards bodies in the decentralized identity and
web infrastructure space. Our goal is to evolve these ideas into
interoperable, production-grade specifications.


Additional Context

A significant portion of the current work is being prototyped and discussed
through external repositories and experimental implementations. We will
work on improving visibility by updating the group’s homepage and sharing
progress more consistently within the W3C ecosystem.

We would appreciate keeping the group open as we expect increased activity
and more structured outputs in the near future.
