Geolocation API is a W3C Recommendation

Hi DAS WG,

I’m thrilled to relay the following announcement from the Director:

[[

It is my pleasure to announce that the following W3C Recommendation has been published:

   Geolocation API
   https://www.w3.org/TR/2022/REC-geolocation-20220901/

The Geolocation API provides access to geographical location information associated with the hosting device.

During the Advisory Committee review of the Proposed Recommendation [1], most Members supported the publication of the document as a Recommendation as is, two Members suggested that the group should produce an up-to-date implementation report.

The Geolocation API specification needs to be tested mostly by hand, due to the nature of the GPS devices and the lack of GPS and permissions support in Web Driver. WPT [2] is not representative of the API test results. Consequently, the W3C staff chose to minimize the effort done to test the specification. Detailed information can be seen in [3].

Please join us in congratulating the W3C Devices and Sensors Working Group [4] on this achievement.

This announcement follows section 5.7.2 of the W3C Process Document:
