Thanks for the suggestion, @richtr, I'm actually quite familiar with both tools, as I've helped a bit with the development of ReSpec (implementing markdown support), am supposedly part of the team maintaining it (though I don't do my job properly), and maintain Specref which us used by both for bibliographical references. Overall, they have relatively similar capabilities, though ReSpec has the benefit of not requiring any software installation for pre-processing, thus enabling editing directly from GitHub's Web interface which lowers the barrier to entry. I also happen to be more familiar with it.
