Jonas (cc’d DAP public list): The Device APIs working group [1] has produced an updated "Network Service Discovery" draft [2]. I've noted this on the Mozilla bug page with a summary of changes (bug 914579) [3]. I also saw your subsequent comment regarding concerns of device implementation of CORS and Shih-Chiang Chien deciding to switch to a socket approach. Does this mean there are no plans in Mozilla to progress work related to Network Service Discovery, or am I misreading the status? Would this warrant further discussion, perhaps on a DAP call if you are able to join us? Who else at Mozilla should be included in this conversation? The DAP WG is concerned that if we do not have adequate implementer interest in this specification we cannot justify progressing it further, so we are soliciting feedback. We are seeking your feedback to the following questions: 1. Does this specification address use cases and needs of concern to your community? 2. In particular, in light of the recent additional requirement of CORS support from local network services, it is likely that this specification would only work with recently updated devices. If you still believe implementation of CORS support in UPnP/DIAL/Zeroconf based devices will be an issue do you think we can mitigate this? 3. Is Mozilla still working on an implementation of this specification? What are the possibilities of it being implemented in a deployed browser? 4. Can you provide any assistance in determining implementation plans at this point and/or provide specification feedback? Feedback you give us is important to DAP taking appropriate next steps and will be much appreciated. Please send any comment to the DAP public list (cc’d) , public-device-apis @ w3.org Thanks regards, Frederick Frederick Hirsch, Nokia, @fjhirsch Chair Device APIs Working Group [1] http://www.w3.org/2009/dap/ [2] http://www.w3.org/TR/2014/WD-discovery-api-20140220/ [3] https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=914579 For tracker, relevant to ACTION-688
