Just wanted to close the loop on the use of HTML's Function Interface in the proximity spec. As a result of the discussion with the Editor of HTML5 [1] it was concluded that "the current inconsistent behavior seems to be the shortest path to interop"… so no change needed to the spec (and the discussion did result in Opera fixing their implementation, which I guess made the whole thing worth while) :) The proximity tests I created reflect the use of HTML Function, and I've not received any further feedback, so I think I'm ready to contribute them to the W3C.
