Interesting points. Last year's decision was about permissions only, but as you said it's not clear how this would work in terms of UI and integration with gUM permissions. Maybe @engedy can provide some insight here from a Chromium perspective. From an ALS perspective device selection isn't a problem since the Generic Sensors APIs do not currently expose more than one sensor of a given type and devices usually ship with a single ALS.
