I would go a step further, and suggest that rather than one color token being an alias for another, that it should be possible to have color tokens that represent a transformation applied to the base color. For example when creating light and dark versions of some base color, a change to the base color should affect the light and dark versions accordingly, rather than having them explicitly defined.

These transformations are probably most easily applied (if not represented)  in the HSLA color space.
