Suggested motivation for SVG keynote at WWW2012 workshop on Declarative 3D: The Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) Working Group has successfully demonstrated how 2D animated graphics can be adapted to complement HTML and the architecture of the Web. This process has taken many years of work by many people, with steady progress continuing today. The Declarative 3D Community Group aspires to similar goals: aligning interactive 3D graphics with HTML5 and the architecture of the Web. Achievements, challenges, strategies and "lessons learned" from the SVG experience can provide useful insights for ongoing efforts to bring interoperable 3D graphics to the Web. all the best, Don -- Don Brutzman Naval Postgraduate School, Code USW/Br brutzman@nps.edu Watkins 270, MOVES Institute, Monterey CA 93943-5000 USA +1.831.656.2149 X3D graphics, virtual worlds, navy robotics http://faculty.nps.edu/brutzman
