What you've linked here is a *sin*. Even this little demo is triggering 20ms recalculateStyle in Chrome on my ultra-beefy work desktop.

Yeah if it's just expanded as an index at substitution time, it's not a big deal. We'd already be generating all the repetitions themselves (not some compact form); having each one vary in this way seems pretty trivial.
