The use case makes sense to me, but another scenario I'm thinking about is a paragraph that's mostly one text color, except for a span that sets a different text color. The author might want a uniform caret color over that paragraph but a different caret text color depending on the color of the underlying text. Which suggests a separate property for this behavior, but being able to set the two values together does have benefits. Maybe this is another nudge to take up #8398 again to find a durable path for shorthandifying properties?
