I'm pretty strongly *against* 2. I would be okay with 3.

Though personally I'm not sure that this is quite 'broken' right now.

This doesn't seem like it's that big a deal either because it's so easy to customise.

One possible scenario is that people change the select such that it's border radius is none on the edge where the picker shows, I believe there's enough exposed information regarding anchor positioning to achieve this already today.
