The consistency with `inline-grid` is the only argument that seems reasonable for me that authors might expect `inline-grid-lanes` to work. I still believe that adding `inline-grid-lanes` is unnecessary and harmful for pushing the two-keyword syntax, though @romainmenke's [proposed compromise](https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/10961#issuecomment-3879948345) is acceptable for me. So I lift my objection if we can agree on that.
