Considering the new text, I think we need an additional clause. Something like (patching this very strictly): * _possible anchor_ is an [=inline-level box=] or [=internal ruby box=], and _positioned el_'s [=absolute positioning containing block=] is formed by an ancestor of _possible anchor_ whose [=containing block=] is also _possible anchor_'s [=containing block=] Or perhaps * _possible anchor_ is an [=inline-level box=] or [=internal ruby box=], and _positioned el_'s [=absolute positioning containing block=] is formed by an ancestor of _possible anchor_. Or possibly even * _positioned el_'s [=absolute positioning containing block=] is formed by an ancestor of _possible anchor_ if that doesn't actually break anything here. -- GitHub Notification of comment by fantasai Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/12674#issuecomment-3287054669 using your GitHub account -- Sent via github-notify-ml as configured in https://github.com/w3c/github-notify-ml-config
