non native english speaker here and... _don't think the fact that it's not even a common english word is a strong argument_... it's a display type for a web layout. The amount of english words (by whichever subjective definition of "common" you may want) that are CSS property names uncommon to me is already quite high. Every CSS developer (native and non native english) I speak to understands the concept of "masonry". So I do think @desandro has a valid point.
