I think we should go for option B in https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/11976#issuecomment-3227424707 , as option A would ultimately affect non-wrapping cases (i.e. good old multicol-1), as I'm demonstrating in https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/11976#issuecomment-3284310944 (well, in my mind, at least).
