@fantasai I think this makes sense for alignment. For dense packing, does this mean that even if we decide to place an item in a lower gap, it may actually contribute to an earlier gap, for example, in the following case: <img width="587" height="862" alt="Image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/217e7367-44c3-4f1e-8f55-5d4501f5f0ce" /> Would we remove space in both gaps, even though we placed the item in the second gap?
