That's assuming that a spanner is added after the column-height, rather than being inside the available height? Or have I misunderstood the diagram? I don't think that's what people would expect. A spanner isn't causing a new row. We're going to have to deal with scenarios where the spanner is too big and so on, but if for example you made your column height 100vh.
