I agree that it makes sense to split the column height from whether additional columns are layed out in inline or block direction. I just wanted to note that there's another way of thinking about this is like the auto-flow mechanism in Grid. I.e. a property similar to `grid-auto-flow` that takes either `row` (default) or `column` as values.
