^ That is an excellent question. I was trying to look up past discussions on the issue and came across https://github.com/WICG/view-transitions/issues/97. The conclusion there was that granular capture is strictly better than the current mode so ideally that would be the default (and only supported mode). There is actually an example there for how the nesting mode being discussed here will only solve the transform/clipping problem, but not mirror rendering of other effects (like opacity/filter) without combining it with granular capture. It might be needed if we do a cross-process implementation to support cross-site eventually but that probably shouldn't be a reason to keep it for now, that feature has a lot of open questions. And wouldn't be difficult to bring back this concept if needed. So compat would be the main reason to keep both modes. -- GitHub Notification of comment by khushalsagar Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/10334#issuecomment-2162432625 using your GitHub account -- Sent via github-notify-ml as configured in https://github.com/w3c/github-notify-ml-config
