I discussed this with some colleagues and one of them shared this insight: > VoiceOver will announce the orientation of controls when you land on them (if you want an example, feel free to try out the sliders on [this page](https://www.w3.org/TR/2017/NOTE-wai-aria-practices-1.1-20171214/examples/slider/slider-2.html)). Imo, vertical vs horizontal sliders can have implicit meanings (think: volume bar that goes from bottom to top, 0 to 100 ), vs a horizontal slider that may be used to pick a point on a spectrum between two things in opposition. That indicates this is a semantic aspect of the control and thus should be controlled by HTML. -- GitHub Notification of comment by annevk Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/9832#issuecomment-2531050954 using your GitHub account -- Sent via github-notify-ml as configured in https://github.com/w3c/github-notify-ml-config
