It's between 1. and 3. for me, with a slight preference to 3. The way I see this problem is we're either declaring something about the view transition, or we're declaring something about the navigation. 7 and 8 also blur the lines a bit and declare something about both. My preference is to talk about navigation here, and qualify it with something like same-origin or some other mechanism in the future.
