Also, to respond to @bradkemper we are only considering doing this in flex and grid contexts. I don't think there's a compelling need to do this outside of those contexts. Yes you _can_ disconnect the source and reading order by abspos etc. but I've not seen people having the issues there that they have with grid and flex layouts.
