I mentioned this here because @kidayasuo asked, and because I find it relevant to what is / isn't "ideal": once `hanging-punctuation` is widely supported, all "ideal" layouts can be achieved with `auto-trim`, but as long as it is missing, `space-first` used together with U+3000 is needed for some layouts (which are popular in novels).
