Yeah `reading-order-items` works. This still leaves us with the question as to whether we need `reading-order: <integer>` at all. If we were to implement `reading-order-items` on the parent and `reading-order: auto` for the children, would that help with @fantasai's concerns of people just applying it everywhere?
