I can definitely see the value in `discrete` for being easy to type and referring to the changed behavior.

This seems to be a bit of a compat box we have painted ourselves into. If we support smooth interpolations for these it would have to be a new value for this property or a new property to suggest something like that we are transitioning between *used* values.
