@emilio @LeaVerou I think that problem is gonna stay no matter what solution we take if we acknowledge the use-case. We want developers to be able to keep elements in top layer for the duration of an animation, the length of which should be in developer's control. Whether that happens via `:open`/`:closed` pseudo-classes or `transition: top-layer`, the author is going to be able to keep elements in top layer indefinitely.
