That seems very reasonable. The `space-first` behavior would be the best for `normal` that must respect compatibility with existing content.

On the other hand, the `auto` value, defined as "The user agent chooses a set of typographically high quality spacing values", has no such requirement and it should include the `trim-start` behavior naturally. (I think this should be noted in the spec so that `text-spacing: auto` behavior will not look very different in multiple implementations.)
