I would need to look more into this discussion and the idea itself, but just want to drop in a use-case that is really common in my practice, which seems like a very good case for the `:initial` — transitions for the `:target` elements. Both when you give a link to some content, or just use the `href="#foo"` to go to a certain place on the page, you'd want to highlight the target, _but_ only temporarily.
