FWIW I'm with @litherum on this one. 28% of websites is a huge proportion: regardless of that poll it's clear this property is very, very widely used. I imagine if you ran the same poll for `font-width` you'd get similar results. Existing sites won't change because it doesn't add anything, new ones are at best going to use both "just in case". And as for font-aware designers knowing not to stretch text - well, they've managed to adapt to `font-weight: bolder` not necessarily making things bolder and 1pt not necessarily meaning 1/72".
