In general using exact rational values is a better approach, agreed. I am curious where the [D65 values 0.312713, 0.329016](https://mina86.com/2019/srgb-xyz-matrix/) come from. About a year ago there was a strong effort to recalculate everything using a [consistent white point](https://drafts.csswg.org/css-color-4/#white-point) everywhere, which reduced residual errors substantially.
