Note that whether we go with pixels or percentages is the issue discussed in #7045.

However even if we decide to use a pixel-based approach I still have the same concern that if the currentTime (and other "time" value API's) don't have units on them, it will be tricky to distinguish them and avoid mixing units. Also (as I think you alluded to) it makes it more awkward to support multiple input unit types in the future.
