I'm not sure. My understanding based on the descriptions above was that the issue with making `auto` transitionable is that `auto` has to follow a bunch of other rules (`calc()`). Abstractly, I'm thinking the proposed keyword would only follow the rules necessary to achieve this transition feature without following those other rules like `calc()`. Not full interoperability.
