When used in calligraphy, "水" does not make any sense. "永" is the right choice for it represent the basic skills of calligraphy, "Eight Principles of Yong" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eight_Principles_of_Yong. Almost every calligrapher knows this as beginner.
