Thanks @tabatkins! I think I’ll try to implement this [in Chromium](https://crrev.com/c/2850068), then come back and add this to the agenda. For now it looks like we need two spec changes: [#highlight-styling](https://drafts.csswg.org/css-pseudo-4/#highlight-styling) should include custom properties in its list, and [#highlight-cascade](https://drafts.csswg.org/css-pseudo-4/#highlight-cascade) should clarify that the “regardless” rule applies even to registered custom properties where [the inherit flag](https://drafts.css-houdini.org/css-properties-values-api-1/#determining-registration) is false. -- GitHub Notification of comment by delan Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/6264#issuecomment-861163775 using your GitHub account -- Sent via github-notify-ml as configured in https://github.com/w3c/github-notify-ml-config
