If I'm understanding correctly this would match when "forced" colors is either:
- inactive (e.g. Windows default)
- unavailable (e.g. Mac)
- active near a default contrast threshold matching neither `more` nor `less`. 

If so, I have no objections other than the suggestion that this be called `no-preference` to match similar media features. 

However, if the intention of the `middle` value is limited to matching forced colors that are neither `more` nor `less`, then it seems like this is a renaming of the `forced` value that was already discussed in #5433. 

I will attend the discussion in case I am missing something.
