I hate to add to a long thread just to echo earlier thoughts, but I am also wanting a table with sticky headers and horizontal scrolling (and no explicit height). My specific use-case is a comparison table. Sticky headers are help orient the user as they scroll through a potentially large table, ensuring they do not get lost. Horizontal scrolling is required because you want to maintain standard columnar layout (i.e. not use other responsive "tricks" like collapsing rows/columns), allowing for quick comparison between rows. Explicit height is not a suitable workaround as it relies on fragile/performance-intensive scripting. Anything less than that is a sub-optimal experience for users. @valtlai's codepen perfectly demonstrates the current issue https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/865#issuecomment-350585274 -- GitHub Notification of comment by WickyNilliams Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/865#issuecomment-771708175 using your GitHub account -- Sent via github-notify-ml as configured in https://github.com/w3c/github-notify-ml-config
