@r12a there was a proposal by @felipeerias did you see it? https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/4497#issuecomment-763459971 It seems to satisfy the "user can easily change" aspect that you mentioned; I particularly liked the per-site/everywhere option.
