I guess it's also not clear whether it's

> [an identifier or a `reversed()` function] paired with an integer

or

> an identifier or [a `reversed()` function paired with an integer]

So maybe the best would be

> either an identifier paired with an integer, or a reversed() function optionally paired with an integer.
