Yeah I know. I've just been reading up on ISO17972 - revisiting rendering intents is like comparing brain-surgery to phrenology. I agree absolute makes no sense. As for the rest, I suppose I'm just saying that if it's to be defined it should be per-element. @LeaVerou if we have multiple colors in a gradient we have to collapse to a single space anyway which is the space of the element they're being rendered in, not where the variable was defined. So maybe not that weird.
