I've made an [interactive notebook](https://observablehq.com/@danburzo/chroma-premultiplication) to try it out. It works surprisingly well! It handles graciously and continuously zero, and near-zero, chroma:

But it's arguably not the "correct" interpolation with noticeably large chroma:
