The problem is that all browser implementations ignored the OpenType Spec from 2016 and did something different, all in the same way, but we also now have a lot of fonts that were made with opsz axes according to the OpenType Spec. A CSS px is device pixels per inch / 96, and a CSS pt is device ppi / 72.
