@keithjgrant take a look at my last comment. Having to creating seperate tracks for the gaps isn't a good solution due to auto-placement. Making it possible to define different gap sizes on different rows and columns is a much more plausible solution. It only requires a very minor tweak to the grid-gap syntax to make it work. I explain more in that comment.
